Approach to sport showing differences in the lead parties

So the premier was talking sports on the Team 1040, having thrown out the first pitch on his campaign in Prince George - front page photo ops from the Charles Jago Sport Centre, one of the 2010 legacy success stories. All part of making sport a "vital public service" as per the Liberal campaign platform.

Meanwhile, competing visions for sport and recreation infrastructure development are emerging with the NDP using P3s as a potential wedge issue along with dedicated funds (~$100m) for new development.

Who would have thought that so early in the campaign you would see approaches to sport as a key question between the two leading parties. Oh, the Greens just called, let's hear what they have to say...

Drop the puck..err, the writ...and so its game-on for the campaign

Interesting start to the campaign, I'd say.

First off - check out how you can get involved.

It's as simple as asking a question...
  • "Through sport, we can all make a difference (...in our communities, for our athletes, to our health, for our environment, and to our economy)If elected, how will you make a difference in sport?"

  • Join the campaign online at www.sportforbc.ca, visit the blogFacebook group, or follow us on Twitter

  • Post one of the campaign icons on your website and link them back to www.sportforbc.ca

  • Forward election bulletins like this one throughout your networks

  • Take action by speaking with or writing to your candidates - tools for your use are now being loaded onto www.sportforbc.ca

  • Connect with the campaign headquarters at info@sportforbc.ca / 1-877-633-3441 or 604-333-3441

  • Attend or host an all candidates meeting in your riding - ask us how!

  • Send an op-ed to your local newspaper about the Sport for BC campaign

Progress already

Some interesting commentary by the NDP that will benefit from some further analysis and discussion with them. Mostly focused on community sport and rec infrastructure...is it a dedicated line item? Annual AND locked-in or term limited?

Policy analysis to follow by Wednesday of next week.
